Belem or Santarem to Manaus?

Currently rejuvenating some nerve endings in the nether region and enjoying Reveillon in Natal, Brazil. Next stage is going West into Venezuela. I want to cut down on the 6 day boat trip from Belem to Manaus. Anyone know if Santarem is truly accesible by road, (BR230, BR163), and if so is a boat from there,(3 days), an option?

Feliz Novo Ano.

I have never been to South America. My map is a very general AAA map of all of SA so not detailed. It shows BR 230 as gravel from Maraba to Altamira. From there paved to BR 163 intersection. BR 163 is shown as "sometimes bad in wet weather". I do not know about river travel. Hope this is a little helpful since no one else replied. We will be going that way next year so I would be interested in what you find out about that route.

I'am affraid that probably will be too late for you, anyway it goes:

This is the page of Brazilian Ministry of Transports. You have lots of maps (the link above goes directly to Santarem region) and you may contact local autorities to have detailed road conditions.

Have a safe trip.
