Best border crossing Ecuador to Perú?
Crossing to Peru from Ecuador day after tomorrow - what's the most chilled crossing - I like the look of the road that then heads on to San Ignacio but don't know whether it's a proper crossing etc??
Thanks! |
Macara was pretty easy when I crossed the other way last week.

Best?
There are many reports about riders crossing just north of San Ignacio. I have not been across that one (yet) but this is the best time of year as it is the dry season and most of it is gravel.
Enjoy! :mchappy::mchappy::mchappy: |
I did that crossing last february. The crossing itself is super chill. There was almost no one when I was there. Easy way out of Ecuador and on the Peru side easy too. I was sitting behind the desk with the customs officer and helped him fill the paperwork, funny.
I did all this road in the middle of the rainy season. It was pretty hardcore (lots of mud) but we manage. IN the dry season it should be all fun. It's all seasonable dirt road south of Vilcabamba to san Ignacio then from san Ignaco you will find some better dirt roads, where you can open the throttle, until you will hit pavement a bit before Jaen. Make sure you stay in Vilcabamba a this hostel : Izhcayluma - Vilcabamba - Ecuador It's the best damn hostel I ever been. Great view, great food, great accomodation. Don't miss it ! |
Damn ! just saw OP is crossing probably today.
well some more info for those who hit the search button. |
Thanks all!
The La Balsa crossing (north of san ignacio) was indeed very chilled. had to go find the ecuadorian aduana guy to come unlock the gate to the bridge and then the peruvian side would have been five minutes were there anyone with a photocopier in the village... chased around after "professor panta" for half an hour and in the end the aduana guy was so chilled he let me go through without any copies... knew they didn't really need them anyway! the roads, as you guys said were great this time of year and fantastic scenery and Izhcayluma hostel in Vilcabamba was great as you said. In San Ignacio, the hostal with parking is called Hostal Faical btw. |
