Best border crossing Peru into Bolivia
Hi all, going to cross the border from Peru to Bolivia in the next days, coming from Cusco 2up on a german plated KTM,which border could you recommend. Thanks for kind advice.

The Desaguadero crossing is the more commercial one so it is busier, and a bit crazy (though very modern now).
The Yunguyo/Copacabana one is better for tourists, but then after Copacabana there is the short ferry. |
The ferry sounds nice. Thanks

The ferry (actually dozens of ferries rather than just one) is a very good introduction to the chaos of la Paz

Hi Tony, Lima was already a smooth invitation.cy

I did the Copacabana crossing last summer. It was fast both getting out of Peru and into Bolivia. Getting out of Peru they did check that I had valid insurance... The road between the border and the ferry was beautiful, although I did get lost in Copacabana... After the ferry there was a long stretch of road works before getting on the highway to La Paz.

In Bolivia, the police in Copacabana( right next to customs) will tell you you have to pay for an "Orden" so you can legally travel thru Bolivia.
It's a mordida scheme, this paper is not needed. Ask them a receipt they will never produce one. |
we did the copacabana border crossing today: everything went nice and very friendly and fast. After an hour we were on the road again. Beautifull landscape, best choice.
