Best country to buy/sell a motorcycle in South America
Hi,
My boyfriend and I are planning a roadtrip in South America this summer. We'd like to see Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. From what I've read, Chile is the easiest country to buy a motorcycle, but we didn't plan on going that far south. We've only got 2 months. Is it easy to buy a bike in a country and sell it in another? In which country would it be easier to buy, and easier to sell the foreign bike afterwards? Do you have an idea of the time needed for the paperwork to be done? Since we haven't got that much time, we would not want to be stuck a month waiting for the papers. Thanks in advance! Caroline |

I believe selling a bike in SA is very difficult if you are not a citizen of the country you're trying to sell it in. |
Forget Bolivia I can tell you that right now. Not because it's particularly difficult to buy/sell a bike (it's stupidly easy and there's no control on anything) but because the prices are obscenely high compared to market value given the 45% tax on imported vehicles. Chile is by far the easiest. DOn' tknow about peru or ecuador.

I have a 990 KTM
If you are doubling up and carrying gear a KTM 990 may be a good option.
I will sell the bike and all gear included. Bike is in Argentina for DAKAR en-route to Colombia after race. Colombian registration, American owned. Excellent condition. Al |
