Bike friendly hostal in Valpariso
Hi
We are a Kiwi couple landing in Valparaiso in September to await the arrival of our bike. Does anybody have a good recommendation for a hostal that has safe storage for the bike. Will be heading straight away to Argentina and the Falls before travelling South |
I can highly recommend Martina and EnzoSchaarschmidt, Villa Kunterbunt. (villakunterbuntvalpo@yahoo.de)
They also do shipping and can help (for a reasonable fee) if you need it. Bob:scooter: |
Thanks Bob
Will look intoi that one. Do they have a web address as well. Have replied to your e-mail address as well. Will be keeping an eye out for you on the way and if we miss then we will certainly look you up when we arrive in the U.S. Keep in touch as to your plans and progress. Cheers Donald |

Not sure if they have a web site. Just send Martina an email and she can give you the GPS coordinates if you will have one or explain how to get to there place. It was a little hard for me to find as I did not have the coordinates, only an address. She will also give you a phone number that you can call. It was a great place to stay and I think that they only deal with bikers. Bob:scooter: |

If you are who I think you are... do you have pictures of your boxes anywhere??? I've told a bunch of people about them and would love to show pics! dg |
Hi Dave
Have some pics at "horizonsunlimited.com/tstories/thode" go to archives and start at the beginning as it has some while they were still clean. Took the bike down twice in gravel and they held up fine, (my knee is almost back to normal and the ribs have healed). Should have left more clearance to allow for things to move when the mount bolts gave out. Bike (and boxes)in storage in BA, (Dakar Motos) so can't post more pics now. I will continue on in Sept. a good hostal to stay while waiting for your bike or after your bike has been sent off is Hostal Costa Manantial. They dont have their own bike parking, the only downfall of the place. The location is great (just off Plaza Italia), the price is good (US$30 for double room), room has got own bathroom, TV and wifi. (Hostal Costa Manantial Valparaíso Chile)
Hostal Kunterbunt charges US$37 per night, shared bathroom, no TV. At least they have parking and their inport/export services are good. jc |
Hi, There is a beatiful hostal called 'Hostal Caracol' which sits on top of a hill overlooking Valparaiso for $15 a night inc breakfast. My friend and I stored a BMW 650GS (his) and an XL200 (mine) in their backyard no problems, it was a little tight getting the BMW through the gate though as it had a 38l tank.
Through my entire trip so far this has probably been my favourite hostal for its peace and quietness. |
Many thanks guys. Will look into these places.
Did any of you use anybody to get your bikes out of customs? Cheers Donald |
I had Martina and Enzo help with getting the bike through customs, If you have done it before, not in a hurry and speak Spanish you could do it but for me it was worth the cost. Was stated above that hostal Kunterbunt charges US$37 per night, I paid $15 a night in this January, check with them on current costs.
