Bike Tyres in Ushuaia

Hey team, I`ll be in Ushuaia in the next couple of weeks and want to get some new tyres for my Suzuki DL650. Most important is the front tyre.

Can anyone suggest who I can contact down there. Is it difficult to get tyres?

If needs be I could call ahead and ask that they order some in.

Thanks for all the help, I love this website

Javier from Dakar sent me down some tyres to Rio Gallegos, that might be your best bet as not sure what will be in Ushuaia.

I live @ Rio Gallegos (600km from Ushuaia) and if you want I can go and see what they have for sale.

I definately recommend proceeding to Rio Gallegos. The Honda shop there had several large tires and in addition there is another recommended mechanic there. In Ushuia the pickings were very, very slim & I ended up buying a tire that was crap.

Finally, the hubb recommend mech from Punta Arenas had indicated that the honda guy in rg is a freind & that he could get a tire from Satiago for me & get it to RG customs free.

What ever you do, keep in mind that RG is no place you want to hang out waiting for several days, it's a rather dismal uninspiring city.

PS -- the recommended mech in Punta Arenas should be able to get tires shipped from Santiago in a few days, so that's another option.

No tires for me in Ushuaia last year

I didn't get lucky a year ago when I needed a new rear tire in Ushuaia for my 1200 BMW.

This is how it looked when I had it changed 660km later in Punta Arenas at Alejandro Lago's shop. I posted his address in the forum, or find him through motoaventura.cl

Get your tires in Rio Gallegos or Punta Arenas. Chile is cheaper.

I would take up manolitos very kind offer...

Or have Javier from Dakar send a tyre to his place. Then you can collect it.

I had a tyre sent to the bus station at Rio Gallegos from Javier. It took about a week.

If he goes to Punta Arenas to buy a new tyre, he must know that Argentinian Custom is too slow. You can spend at least 3hs waiting doh

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice.

Sorry for the delay in replying, we have just been trekking the last 5 days completing the W trek, amazing.

We are heading to Rio Gallegos today to try find some tires, Manolito perhaps we can meet up for a beer tonight or tomorrow night if you around?

Our current thinking is if we cannot find tires (I think we need front and back), then we´ll get some ordered, head down to Ushuaia and pick them up on our return.

Manolito, flick me a private message with your cellphone and we will try give you a call later. Cheers

Reece

There is an independent Honda person who stocks numerous tires for other bikes , like yours, or BMW GS. His DBA is Moto Pablo. He is off Ave. Juan Peron out by the airport in Ushuaia. E-mail motopablo@yahoo.com.ar He also repairs other bikes. He is a motocross type guy. You would not believe all the trophies in his shop. Dave

Thanks for all the input, with the help of Manolito (Emmanuel) we were able to track some tires in Rio Grande and even a second hand one in Rio Gallegos to get us there.

We just want to say a HUGE thank you to Manolito for all his help, he dropped everything to help us and without him we would still be stuck and not in Ushuaia enjoying the Southern most city in the world.

There is such a great motorcylce fraternity and we`re stoked to be apart of it.

Thanks again Emmanuel.
