Bogota Hotel recommendation Anyone?

In Panama City and it looks like we are headed to Bogota. Does anyone have a recommendation for a mid-low price hotel in a quiet part of town.? My travel partner is nervous about going to Colombia and I'm too old for the Hostel scene.

Quiet part of town?

Doesn't really exist in Bogota.

If you are headed for the Candelaria District which is the central colonial area, then I recommend:

Anandamayi Hostel

It's a quiet, beautiful, atmospheric place, not frequented by the white-nosed backpacker crowd and you can get the bikes in no problem. Say hello to Margarita for me. If you let me know your requirements, I'll sort something out for you. Perhaps you want something in the North? - middle-class, pretty bland, quite safe, but if that is the case you might as well stay at my pokey flat. You are welcome. Let me know, maybe I can meet you.

Tell your mate not to spend a minute stressing about Colombia. I hate advertising this, but Colombia is as safe as it gets in Latin America, depending on what you want to do of course. I've been all over the place and it's a constant pleasure.

PM if you want any specifics.

Suerte, Thanks for the hotel recommendation and the generous offer to put us up. The Candilaria area sound like what we are looking for.

You're welcome. The Candelaria is lovely, and if I had a bit more cash that's where I'd be living. Just a word of warning though; although I have never had a problem personally and it is extremely safe during the day, the area does get a little moody after dark. Best to know where you are going, walk with a sense of purpose and take usual precautions.

If you need any help...

Hey Stretcher, just had dinner with Margarita and she said to tell you hi. Great place but hard to find.

Ha ha! I did offer to meet you...

Hope you aren't too cold over there. Enjoy Colombia.
