Bolivia to Chile - Border Crossing Locations
 

I'm heading into Bolivia from Salta in 2 days for a quick visit to Uyuni and the Salar. I then need to cross back into Chile and continue north to Lima.I was in San Pedro last week and want to avoid returning there. So I am lookjng for a border crossing north of the Ollague crossing. Anyone know where I can cross? Someone told me I could cross at SAN PABLO DE NEGRA / PASO ABRA ORIENTE DE NAPA, to the west of the Salar, but my map doesn't show an immigration aduana post there.

*I'm returning to Bolivia for a more extensive visit in May, so don't want to spoil it by riding long distances in Bol this time. And I want to spend a bit of time in N Chile.

Camino de ripio y tierra, transitable todo el año

Asistencia policial más cercana: Retén Cancosa (F), distante a 4 km del paso.

Paso Abra Oriente de Napa

I Región.

Camino de pavimento, ripio y tierra, transitable todo el año, con difícil acceso al paso por camino
que bordea el Salar de Coposa.

Coordenadas geográficas: Latitud Sur 20º 33 ́ -
Longitud Oeste 68º 35 ́ - Altura 3.785 m.

Asistencia policial más cercana: Tenencia Ujina (F), distante a 59 km del paso.

Servicios contralores: control se ha hecho
en Ollagüe. Todos los Servicios presentes.

HORARIO: Cuando se requiere habilitar para el tránsito azufre.

OBSERVACIONES: Paso habilitado sólo para importación azufre.




Paso Salar de Ollagüe (Ferroviario y carretero)

II Región.

Camino de ripio, Ruta Internacional CH-21 y ferrocarril de Antofagasta a Bolivia.

Coordenadas geográficas: Latitud Sur 21º 13 ́ -
Longitud Oeste 68º 14 ́ - Altura 3.695 m.

Asistencia policial más cercana: Tenencia Ollagüe (F), distante a 2 km del paso.

Servicios contralores: Aduana, Policía Investigaciones, SAG en Ollagüe.

HORARIO: 08:00 a 20:00 horas, todo el año.

OBSERVACIONES: Paso de personas

Paso Portezuelo del Cajón

II Región.

Ruta CH-27 y empalme a Portezuelo del Cajón.

Coordenadas geográficas: Latitud Sur 22º 53 ́ -
Longitud Oeste 67º 48 ́ - Altura 4.480 m.

cercano: Subcomisaría San Pedro de Atacama (F), distante a 45 km del
paso.

Thanks Manzini. Your Google skills are clearly better than mine!! I could only find various blogs and a date entry on Wiki. This is very useful.

I´d be keen to hear from anyone who has used one of these border crossings recently, to be sure they are open and accessible. Based on Manzini´s info, the crossing at CANCOSA looks most suitable for me, assuming that Paso Abra Oriente de Napa is still only open for import of sulphur (this info is dated 2007, so things may have changed since then).

Has anyone used CANCOSA or PASO ABRA ORIENTE DE NAPA recently?
