Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru I want to buy a motorcycle

I will be traveling in South America for some time and I´m hoping to buy a used motorcycle. I would like a dual sport or something with decent shocks. My limit is $1000 including helmet, gloves, gear.

Seriously, you might find a used bike here for cheap, in Colombia or Venezuela. Personally, I would pick Colombia of these two. The majority of the listings are in Bogota.

On second thought, the picture I provided earlier doesn't have great shocks, but spare parts should be easy to find.

The only used dual sport you will be getting for that price in Peru (or Bolivia or Ecuador) will be a Chinese bike. I have 5 of them here in Peru and they can be quite reliable. mine are all basically new (2,000 km only), but may be selling in a few months...

What's your timetable?

Hi,

You can buy cheap chinese bikes in paraguay. A friend of my did so: Making it up on a motorbike. | China's 2 wheeled revenge on Latin America.

I bought a used Honda CG in Chile for 800 Euro and sold it after riding 28.000 km around southamerica with it

The problem of buying a bike in Chile is that as a tourist i did not get a RUT wich you will need to register the bike. The other problem is that a Chilean bike has to be returned to the country after 6 months and has to be in Chile for route worth inspection in march (i think it was). Because I did not know this, my friend from CHile who registered the bike on his name (because we did not get a RUT for me) got into trouble :(

enjoy your trip, Tobi
