bordercrossing Mali - Senegal
I want to cross the border into Senegal (and further to Gambia) from Mali. I have a peugeot car from 1993. I hear that its easier to cross the border from there then at the (notorious) Rosso bordercrossing when coming from Mauritania. i hear that crossing from Mali into Senegal is less corrupt, and more important for me, there is no convoy and cars older then 5 years would get passed trough. I would like to get some confirmation of this information. Thanks a lot in advance:helpsmilie: .

If you have a Carnet, no problem...the Mali side is simpler...
When you get over the bridge to Senegal, you have about three offices to go to that are .5km apart...stop and ask the local guy, what you do first as far as passport control, etc. Its a pretty tame one...I did Rosso and it was the Mauritanian side that was more difficult than the Senegalese side... edde |
I have a feeling that everybodys experience of Rosso is going to be different. Last time I went throught, going south, the Mauri side was fairly easy going and laid back. The compulsory semi police fixer only cost me about 2000 oogs in "stamping fees" and I sat around for about 3 hrs waiting for the boat to move without any hassle.
The Senegal side was much worse. Really aggressive fixers, money changers getting into fist fights over who was going to change my money and finally, when you thought you had it all done, having to pay the guy to open the compound gate to let you out. Just complete stressfull chaos in what felt like a scene from Mad Max. |
Easy to cross comming from Mali
Hi Chapati, to get back to you question:
Quote:
I can confirm that it was pretty easy to enter Senegal with a 25 year old car coming from Mali (Kayes) and NOT having a Carnet. But this information is 14 month old. But I don't really expect any change. Back than we did not have to bribe anybody, everybody was very correct and friendly. It took us between 1 and 2 hours to cross because there where approx. 4 stations we had to got to (but everybody was pointing us to the next one) and we had to wait at immigrations until they finished a couple of busses.
