Brazil/Uraguay border crossing/Uraguay
We crossed into Brazil from Uraguay a couple of days ago. As this is an "open border" we did not get our passports stamped. We have been told this may cause us problems when we leave. Does anyone have information on this please?
Thanks. |
not the first...
Chance are you are not the first person enter Uruguay from Brazil without get stamped in properly. I recommend going to the closest border crossing (size LG) and line up to be stamped in. Alternately see if there is a Federal Police station, maybe they can assist. The Federal Police stamped me into Brazil...maybe it works that way in Uruguay.
It will only be a hassle if you are in a hurry to leave the country, that is the nature of crossing frontiers. In my experience Uruguay border crossing are laid back. When I crossed from Jaguarão, BR into Uruguay filling out the importation papers was a unique event. The Uruguayan official's eye sight wasn't very good and he kept recording the VIN incorrectly. I gently took the form from him, crossed out his failed attempt and wrote down the VIN myself. I worried that the document would look "doctored" but sailed right through customs in Colonia (at ferry terminal en route to BA.) Enjoy Uruguay, the prices are low and the country is beautiful. My only regret was blasting through in a mad rush to meet my wife in BA... Now I have to return to take in more of what I clearly missed. |
We crossed into Bolivia from Brazil without a problem, after paying a 165 Real penalty for not registering somewhere in Brazil.
Peter, thanks for your help and advice. All is good in our world. |
