Brazilian fuel problems?
I'm heading to SA and my friend (a fuel injection calibrator for Ford) just informed me that Brazilian gas is 22% ethanol. He did a quickie calulation and said that a carb should be jetted 9-10% richer than with pure gas. I don't know what this means in terms of jet numbers- Anyone?
Also, Ethanol (especially in that high a concentration) is also very corrosive and causes some plastic parts to swell. Also problems with rubber seals. If you're having a funky problem you can't figure out that might be it. Anyone with experiences? |
We have carbs on our F650s, and while in Brasil had a bit of problem running at low speeds/rpms because of the fuel. We simply opened up the mixture screws 1 full revolution, and the bikes ran pretty close to normal.
