Buy a bike in Perú and sell it in Chile?
 

Hi there,

it’s my first post in the forum! My girlfriend and I arrived yesterday in Lima, Peru. We thought about buying two motorcycles for further traveling. We have about 9-10 weeks time and have already booked a flight on Christmas to Costa Rica from Santiago de Chile.I’ve read on this forum and it seems it is difficult to sell bikes outside of Peru, if bought there. My question is, is there some possibility to sell the bikes in Chile (maybe to some import/export business who brings them back to Peru) or should we try to reschedule our flight to fly from Peru to avoid trouble getting rid of the motos?
Our plan however is to go south from Peru all the way down to Patagonia and back.

As you are on limited time, why not look at getting a bike or 2 from Toby at around the block Moto adventures? He's located some distance outside of Lima. Google him. If you can not change your tickets, plan a couple of days to take a long distance coach down to Santiago after returning Toby's bikes to him.

Just another option. But this way you are not wasting time buying and selling.

Yeah this is probably your best option given the time frame, and if you do have to get to Santiago, bus to arica and fly from there, it's actually cheaper than the bus if you book it right.
