Buy a bike in Santiago or Buenos Aires

Guys, I'm wondering if it is easier to buy a bike in Chili (Santiago) or Argentina (Buenos Aires). I am thinking of visiting Pategonia first and after that buy a bike in one of these cities to bike all the way up to Colombia.

What are your thoughts? I heard that with the new rules in Chili it's not that easy to buy a bike over there, but not too sure.

Thanks for helping out!

Supposedly if you buy an Argentine-registered bike as a foreigner, you will not be able to ride it outside Argentina for several years.

Oeff, I also read that Chili can be a nightmare in terms of crossing borders. In that case I will do the trip the other way around, starting in Bogota, buy a bike there and ride to the south. That shouldn't be a problem right, to cross borders out of Colombia?

Where did you read that crossing borders with a Chilean purchased bike was a nightmare? I've only read that's one of the better countries to purchase in.
