Does anyone know if there is an equivalent office in Punta Arenas, where I could get hold of an RUT?

Also with the 3rd party insurance, I take it that's something which goes with the bike, and isn't specific to the driver in Chile?

Chilean 3rd party insurance is tranferrable...i.e. it stays with the bike. It's usually due in April, together with the road tax and technical certificates and all that other gumph.

I didnt know you can get bikes in Punta Arenas?

mmm, that's a good point. I'll be after something small like a honda cg125 or even an old c90, so not really in the territory of proper bike shops... Or is there nothing like that in Punta? I'd heard there were a fair number of small machines around, but haven't had any word of places to buy.

I'm hoping there's somewhere in the south? I'm looking at flying over from the Falklands, so Santiago's a bit out the way. How about Ushuaia?

You might be lucky with a small bike...who knows...

Why not try and contact the local communities in Torres del Paine and Puerto Natales? They might have some idea what might be available.

About buying a bike in Chile, i'm selling now my 98' XT 600 E, good condition, with 50000 kms on the clock, it has Hepco Becker Rack and panniers Gobi(Hepco becker), the panniers are almost new and a topcase (not hepco this topcase)

I fitted an 23 liters Acerbis tank ( original has 15 liters) and Acerbis Rally-pro handguards.

A friend of mine has got an 04' XT 600 E with hepco becker panniers and topcase, very good condition too. By the way, we are chileans, so, any further info about the bikes, let me know by PM or email me.
