Buying a bike in Argentina

From what I gather, Argentina may be the best country in Latin America to buy a bike and insure for travel there and in surrounding countries.

Is this correct?

What should I expect in the way of costs... bureaucracy... service and quality of bike... etc etc etc.

If you have any news on this please let me know. I plan to fly in the next couple of weeks so I hope you have good news for me!

Thanks!!

There are plenty of Transalps in Buenos Aires, but finding a good one might be a challenge. I have two contacts you might try, first the editor of Infomoto(Argentinas leading motorcycle mag.), can't remember his name, but the e-mail is informoto@infovia.com.ar. They were helpful when we needed tyres.
The other is the "Posta del viajero en Moto" in Azul, 300km south of BA. Go to our link page, http://www.rocinantestravels.com/links.htm and scroll to the very bottom, were you'll find the contact information.

At least the "Posta.." people only speaks Spanish, while the magazine might help you in English.

A third option, and maybe the best, is to contact Gonzalo Figueroa (susiseg@hotmail.com), an Argentinaen living in Norway (fluent English) and moto traveller, who might point you in a better direction.

hope this helps, and good luck

A friend and I recently purchased two used late model KLR650's from a dealer via email in Santiago Chile. It was pretty easy to do once we found some contacts. Plans are to regsiter bike in our name(s) and travel on multiple trips to SA. Must get a RUT (equivilent to USA SS #)to register bike. I'm told its pretty straight forward. Dealer's address http://www.motoclub.cl/ in Santaigo. Owner is Cluadio Hofer (no English) He's a BMW dealer but found our KLR's no problem.

You will see MOTO CLUB ads in this adversing online(click on "MOTOS" and enter in model etc)http://economicos.mercurio.cl/vehi/index.html

Try this site for motos in Argentina http://www.motocare.com.ar/Agencias/motoagen.htm

Good luck.
