Buying a motorbike from another Traveller
Hey everybody,
i want to traveller through south america by motorbike and i will probably start in chile. I want to buy a motorbike from another traveller. But how does the process look like? How do i get the bike into my name? And is it easier to buy from another traveller than to buy an chilean bike an do all the paperwork. I heard it can be very tricky nowadays to geht the RUT. |
Hi DrZoidberg and welcome,
You will have to give us a few more details, in which country is the bike registered is probably the most important but both yours and the sellers nationalities can affect the answer. |
it probably will be an chilean registered bike. which registration would be good if i want to buy a foreign bike in chile do you know that? Myself i am from Germany. Cant i just buy a bike from another traveller with an power of attorney and thats it :) probably not right

I have just listed a US bike for sale in Santiago available later this year so I'm keen to hear some answers too

I also.
I'm going to try and come to Argentina in January and would like to take a foreign bike up to Colombia. |

Poder - permission to ride - South America
DrZoidberg,
I just addressed the issue of "poders" (owner's permission for another to ride a bike in South America) on the following thread, see post #5 on Trip Paperwork. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...-2-bikes-89164 I addressed only 3 potential issues, and my analysis is in no way complete. Please consult the many other threads that deal with selling/buying foreign registered bikes in South America. xfiltrate |
Important Update
DrZoidberg, after considerable more research I have added information regarding th need for "Apostiles" with a "Poders" (permissions for non owners to ride a motorcycle in South America), if traveling internationally.
Please revisit this link for edited information about "Apostiles." Post#5 http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...164#post549062 xfiltrate - who does his best work at night |
We have two motorbikes in Brazil , registered in our own names for sale from beginning of January 2017 near Sao Paulo. We know the process in Brazil for foreigners now!!! We have managed to buy in one week.We are British.
