Buying in Brazil
 

My friend and I are flying to Rio de Janiero in a week and wish to buy a pair of motorcycles to take through patagonia up to peru thren back to brazil to sell the bikes. Does anybody know of a shop in or near Rio where we could buy honda fx400 falcons or something similar?

You know you need a brazilian CPF (social security nr)in order to buy a vehicle in Brazil? It is possible as a tourist but a bit of a hassle maybe. And bikes are not cheap here either.

All in all might be a good idea to hop in one of those international busses and go on to Chile (a direct buss Rio to Lima was apr.US 140 last year. So Chile should be cheaper even??) where bikes are a lot cheaper and it is easier to get the paperwork done.

from what i heard Brazil is extremely expensive to buy motorcycles. a new 1200GS cost approx 50K.

If you want a cheap bike you should come to TDF/Ushuaia. there are a lot of folks endind their trip and trying to sell their bikes for cheap. RickMcD is one of them and i've come across a couple others that are trying to sell them or sold thme instead of shipping them back to the US.
