Can I buy in Peru and tour SA?

Someones got to know if it's doable. I've heard that non-nationals can buy vehicles in Peru but getting across borders is an other thing. Anyone know about this?

I suspect you would have better luck in Chile or Argentina. Peru's government is a bit of a mess.

Ofcourse things can change, I am talking of my experience back in 1993. Bought a car in Lima. It took 6 months to get the documents in my name... When I got to the (peruvian side of the) border with Bolivia it turned out a Carnet de Passage was needed. The peruvian customs did not let me leave as they wanted a guarantee that the peruvian car would return as otherwise I would have to pay exportduties! I got the CdeP at the Touring Club in Lima (deposit US$4000). Ofcourse the CdP was only needed for leaving Peru, for no other country.
So before buying you better get informed at the Touring Club first. (that had told me before that I would need one but as I could not believe one needed a Carnet for léaving the country I set off without)

I hear that quite often, but nobody seems to really know about this. Do you know what prices are like there? I am looking to sell btw.
Cheers

those guys import trail bikes from the US to sell for local customers, so they are aware of the process and might be interested in your bike. The owner is not german but brazilian. They also can do anything you can dream about on your bike with a team of very qualified mechanics.

They might be closed for the holidays period. Anyways, if you stay around the center of Asuncion with your motorcycle, it will be easy to hire a "guide" that will look for contacts for you for a ridiculous fee. Ask the street money changers in the main streets for a contact.

There is also a huge official Yamaha dealership at the north entrance of Asuncion. Ask your hotel reception for the address.

If you come from Argentina and go thru the main road entrance to Paraguay north of Formosa (not the ferry entrance), no entrance paper will be delivered.
