COLOMBIA : do I have to put my license plate number on my helmet?

Hello guyz! (And gals!)

Just picked up my bike from the airport in Bogota today and started riding it. First thing I noticed is that all motocyclist have stickers of their license plate on their helmets.

Do I have to do the same?

Cheers!

I thought the best riding accessory to be seen in Colombia was a jacket with

"STOP!!!
.....

Please

painted on the back

This law came into force because criminals used motorcycles to comit crime on the road. Aparently it worked, not only that, it seems the riders felt safer as it was clear that he was the owner.

I also hear that foreigners with out of country plate didn't have to have the sticker. I have been riding my motorcycle bought and registered in Colombia the past 3 winters and I never bother about the sticker.

I'm sure you will enjoy riding in Colombia, the landscape is awsome, and the Colombians are very friendly and very helpful

cheers

plate on the helmet Colombia

It is a precaution so nobody steals your helmet
Pm me i live in southern Colombia Neiva
and travel al over g650gs and have lots of free time in-between jobs
I don't think there is a law but every body does it because Colombians are obsessed with advertising there likes
I know in cali it is prohibited to have two males on a bike at night Assassin squads in the past
Colombia has changed a lot and keeps changing so noboby knows the rules
Just drive like a hockey player keep your head up and don't take chances cause 50 scooters and cars at the intersection WILL

stop

Colombians are a strange bunch in the 50 to 250 class and the car driver are even stranger, everybody's sole purpose is to get ahead of you in towns and city traffic, on the highways its the same I let about 25 heavy trucks an busses pass me one time in about 20 km because i did not want to deal with there dangerous driving
I knew we were getting close to Campo Alegre south of Neiva and there are about 30 big speed bumps going thru this town so i passed them all and drove 50 km not one of them in my rear views, they don't get it i only have a 650 thumper
THE FUNNIEST THING ABOVE ALL IS?
STOP SIGN IS PARE and this means nothing in Colombia
BUT when you approach a traffic circle -roundabout all the traffic stops before they get in to find there way WTF its hilarious cause i barge in and use my signals
Signals are the biggest problem because nobody takes them serious they forget to cancel and turn the opposite Be a good Hockey player and you will do fine
cause you never know what you opponent will do
Chaos is there culture
The other funny thing is when the locals go to grocery stores and wait in line for half an hour for basically nothing they are patient ! i give up thinking about it
but i avoid rush hour times and small cities have 4 a day cause they take 2 hours off for lunch and it is Ridicules
my 2 pesos colombia

I just spoke with my friend in Medellín and she said they are requesting that everyone have their plate # on the helmet.
In January I am planning on flying to Medellín buying motorcycles there and driving through Ecuador and Perú to Yurimaguas then floating down the Amazon for three days to Iquitos. I may have some questions that you could help me with.

Thanks you all for chiming in. I happened to have some small letter stickers in my luggage and I had all the digits I needed to put my plate on my helmet so I did. No cost to me.
