Colombia/South America
Hey guys!
My partner and i are landing in Bogota around new yrs to visit her parents for a few months but i am thinkning of jumping on a bike and doing some travelling again whilst there.(Ecuador, Bolivia etc) I know decent bikes are expensive and the thought of riding down from Texas has crosssed my mind thought if i buy a bike i intend on leaving it in Bogota for future visits with would require me to pay a steep import tax anyway. So i am chasing any advice on the topic or experience anyone has had or even contacts for mates etc selling decent trail/ Enduro bikes in Colombia (something over 450cc). Is renting an option or even cost effective in comparison, can i leave the country on a rental? Leaving it quite late to get organised i know. Any help in the matter will be greatly appreciated. Cheers! |
You cannot leave the country on a rental moto. A TVIP has a time limit on it, making repeated trips a problem for moto storage. Consider purchasing a local moto with parts available in SA. If you want to ride more than just the blacktop and PanAm Hwy, a 250cc moto is perfect for exploring SA. Honda Tornado is a great moto for SA - I own one in SA. If you're stuck on bigger cc, consider the Honda Falcon.

The best option in your case would be to get a cedula extranjera which can be obtained when one is living with a Colombian native. The cedula is good for 3 years. With a cedula you can enter and leave the country and you can buy/sell any vehicle you want like a Colombian native.
