Crossing Peruvian-Bolivian border
 

Hi. I've heard they don't let motos with peruvian plates cross from Peru to Bolivia because of robberies of vehicles (in Bolivia you can register a bike without papers, so they steel in Peru and register in Bolivia).
Have anyone done that? Is it easier in Desaguadero o Copacabana? Or is it impossible and I have to go through Chile?

The reason the Peruvian bikes can't enter Bolivia directly is that there is no TVIP agreement between the countries (due to who knows what). You CAN enter Bolivia with Peruvian motorcycles from any other country, even return from Bolivia to Peru, just not the other way!

If you go to the Desaguadero crossing, it is very busy. Vehicles are going back and forth under Zona Libre status, so vehicle control is slack. If you don't look too much like a Gringo on a monster moto, you could stop at the Peruvian exit, go to Migraciones for your vias exit from Peru, then ride over to the Bolivian side and check in both yourself and your moto. 1 pm to 3 pm is always the best time as lunch calls strongly to border officials...
