Crossing to Argentina - insurance needed
Will be crossing into Argentina a La Quiaca from Uyuni in Bolivia in a few days. According to iOverlander I can't get across unless I have Argentinian insurance. Don't want to have to jump in a taxi leaving the bike at the border - any suggestions on how I might get the paperwork sorted beforehand?
Doin the Bolivian border at Ollague tomorrow - no chance of insurance there. Maybe in Uyuni? Seems much harder to sort this here th an in Africa where we always bought at the border. |

Best option imo is to buy multi-country insurance in Bolivia, it covers 5-6 countries and are dirt cheap. You can find details on iOverlander. |
Yeah, since I posted have found a guy who will sort this - will post his details (whatsapp) shortly. This seems to be a problem peculiar to the La Quiaca crossing. He can sort out cover for Bolivia etc too - in Ollague now, crossing tomorrow.

in 2018 we crossed between Chile and Argentina 5 times and were never asked for insurance at the borders.
We bought our insurance in Argentina at Triunfo Seguros in Salta - I believe they have many other locations. The insurance was good for all MERCOSUR countries and was inexpensive. We found the office on iOverlander. |
Thanks. We found insurance from an outfit in Salta on iOverlander too. All done over Whatsapp. We were most definitely asked for the certificate at the Villazon/La Quiaca border so don't assume all borders are relaxed about it. And given the appalling driving standards here you might just need it!
Note the guy on iOverlander needs a photo of your credit card and of course the CVV number which some people have been reluctant to provide - this has caused him some frustration. Grow up people, there are protections in place against fraud with credit cards and the guy in Salta is legit. |

Hey Reggie3CL, happy Holidays!! Quite possible that I’m a little borracha and can’t find the info...but do you still have the WhatsApp details for that insurance guy? And did it all work out ok? I’ll be crossing the same border in a few weeks or so. Thanks for the help! |
Ahhh whoops. I see now, check salta area Ioverlander pins. Will do.

Yeah, if you find the info on the border at Villazon/La Quiaca his details are there. Can recommend Hosteria Refugio del Sol if you are overnighting in La Quiaca.
