Current Mex. Ferry Info?
Having stumbled through poor info on various outdated web sites regards Mexican Ferries, I thought I'd ask if anyone has current info on Ferries from Mazatlan to LaPaz or Topolobambo to LaPaz.
I've got basic departure times, and crossing times just trying to find accurate pricing or a web site that is actually current and operational and not from 2002 or earlier !!! |

i took this ferry from la pas to matzatlan in early nov. The price was substantially higher than reports that i had read. I do not remember exactly but i think i read that the cost was around 70 usd for passenger and bike. The actual cost was around 200 usd if i remember correctly.. also, i had a watch stolen from my soft top box while it was parked overnight.... that was the only problem theft wise i had from wyoming to mexico city..

Two years ago in September there were three ferry companies operatng out of Pichilingue , two with service to Mazatlan. Check the sites www.vivalapaz.com/transportation/ferries.html
and www.trybaja.com/ferry.html They have several different styles of ships and some are dedicated to freight i.e trucks but will accept assengers and vehicles. Prices are still in the reasonable range. Hey , if you want to go it is worth it. Best tactic I found during a number of crossings was to go straight to the ferry docks where all three companies have ricket offices . Just tell the gate keeer you want in to check prices and book pasage. That way you can get the latest info on times and prices and if you are late for the sailing, or early , you can fill the time easy enough touring around the La Paz area. As a motorcyclist you are just about absolutely assured that you will get aboard your chosen sailing. |
Not trying to be a smart ass, but that www.trybaja.com link in the above post, that ferry info must be at least 15 years old. 3 years ago I paid $140 US for myself (turista cabina) and a Kawasaki Concours, Mazatlan to La Paz. Ship was the Vallarta, bar and disco on board, fun time, 20 hour trip.

Sorry about that trybaja website, just trying to help on the fly and found it.
However I do have personal experience with www.ferrytmc.com a nice site with sound efffects yet. In Sept. 04 I paid $87.55 US for the transport of my KLR and $43.77US for myself in salon class for the trip with TMC Ferries from Pichilingue to Mazatlan ยด.A 15 hour overnight trip, the ticket includes vouchers for a dinner and a breakfast.I rolled out my mat in a nice spot on topdeck for a good sleep. If you want to rent a cabin it costs alot more. Some vessels may not offer cabins. Another site I know works well is www.bajaferries.com with current info. I also have in the past checked www.sematur.com.mx but they were often outdated and today unfindable.Try it anyway and see what you get. Like I said before , just go to the docks, see what is available and work from there. |
Grant,
Thanks for the reminder. I changed email and forgot to update. I have now updated my email. Any idea why I've never gotten the HU newsletter Ezine thingy? Signed up eons ago. And once again, thanks to EVERYONE for the info on Mexico ferries! A just heard from a guy that rode the ferries in Febuary '06 that the Maz to La paz was $310 usd for passenger and bike with cabin. $160 from Topo to Lapaz for passenger and bike with cabin. The Maz-Lapaz is 18 to 20 hours The Topo-La paz is 6 to 8 hours. I hope this is at least in the ballpark. |
