Customs and immigration Chile to Agentina

Leaving Chile at San Pedro de Atacama and crossing into Argentina at passo sico or jama, is it necessary to do the Chilean customs and immigration in San Pedro or is there now an office on these routes?

Cheers

Hi Carl,

Good to see you're making progress. You only need to do Aduana (for chile) in SPDA for Sico (and lagunas crossing for Bolivia), Jama has an integrated Aduana and Immigration for Chile and Argentina. Sico only has Argentinan post and little else. I wish I'd done Sico as its supposed to be the more beautiful of the two, though certainly the harder ride.

hi

FYI:

Today I just passed the border "Jama" from Chile to Argentina by motorbike.
I did everything in "Jama" border including Chile exit stamp, Chile Aduana, Argentina entry, Argentina Aduana.
Now no need to do anything in San Pedro de Atacama.
Actually I went to office in San Pedro de Atacama but the staff said everything can be done in "Jama" border. So, I did that.

You should be careful about motorbike insurance in this border.
The Argentina Aduana staff checked my motorbike insurance and input something from it to PC. I don't know what happen if no insurance... you may be refused to enter Argentina if not. I'm not sure. In that case, you may need to back 160km to San Pedro de Atacama. There is no GAS station in the path. The border has GAS station on Argentina side but probably impossible to go before enter into Argentina.

Hi, where did you buy insurance for Argentina?

Recent entry on ioverlander.com for Paso Sico said the two posts were now co-located on the site of the previous Argentinian post a few km east of the border. Previously there was the Argentinian post, then a SAG post on the Chile side and then formal customs and immigration at San Pedro.

Yep when I was there I ended up doing Sico in the end (i think). Everything was on the Argentinian side. There is a YPF there for fuel too.

It was one of the quicker more efficient boarders between the countries.

Paso Jama from Chile to Argentina: still exactly as above.
No insurance checking for us, but be prepared anyway. Motorbike's laggages checked.
All fast and efficient.
