Customs and the bike in Peru
Hi all,
am planning a trip to South America in the next few weeks. i sent a letter to all the embasies asking aobut paper work etc, peru replie with the letter below, anyone have any experience od this 35% gurantee and also i dont plan on leaving my the same border. any thoughts? thansk ed Dear Mr. McCarthy, Thanks for your letter dated on 17th February 2008 and I do apologise for the late response. We have just confirmed the procedure for travelling with motorcycle throughout Peru . You have to present your vehicle at Customs offices at your point of entrance to Peru , with any document as proof of property, and then you have to pay in cash 35% of the value of the motorcycle to them as guarantee for temporary importation. This money would be returned to you just if you leave the country by the same frontier as you have entered. Regarding visa requirements, as Irish citizen you do not need any visa to enter to Peru and you can stay there up to 90 days. If you need further assistance, do not hesitate to contact us. You dont have to do that in Peru !!
Just go to the customs office at the border/port & ask for temporary import. They'll want photocopies of everything & will give you a document thats valid for 90 days, you dont have to pay anything, surrender the document to customs when you leave the country. |
