|
I just drove that road. Amazing. Brand new pavement. Astonishing views. Good sleeping at Chalhuanca, hot springs. Be sure to refuel top at Nasca. Write if you want more info. I live in Peru. Marcello

hello vagamundo,
thanks for the information. sounds good! do i understand you right: the road is now paved all the way from cuzco to nazca? what about the stretch between cuzco and abancay? thanks for your help + good luck |
HI THERE
BETWEEN ABANCAY AND CUZCO IS NOT VERY LONG IN KMS, BUT BECOUSE IS AT THE ANDES CROSING THERE ARE A LOT OF TURNS, YOU MUST COUNT A DAY DRIVING IF YOU LIKE TO DRIVE ONLY IN A DAYTIME WHICH IS WELL RECOMENDED AS SECURITY IS CONCERN. WHEN YOU PASS BY LIMA LET US KONW BEST REGARDS Quote:

hola,
tengo que preguntar otra vez: la carretera entre cuzco y abancay - esta PAVIMENTADO o no? gracias para la ayuda |

Si, esta totalmente pavimentada. saludos y buen viaje Jorge Lira |
We did nasca to cusco in one very long day. All really good pavement except a little bit of rough pavement near Nasca. Stunning views and incredible turns. Maybe the best road in the western hemisphere! No kidding. Lonely Planet says there are banditos there, but we had NO problems whatsoever.

Just rode this section yesterday. Great road. Especially the Chalhuanca to Abancay portion. Paved 99% of the way. Some few unpaved bits.
Why do the build a paved road right to a town, and then not bother paving the road through the town?? Allocate two days for this trip. Chalhuanca is a good place to stop for the night. Puquio is not such a great place to stop for the night. --Terry |
Last December, on KLR650, left Nasca for Cuzco and had beautiful ride for about 170 miles. At about 14,000 ft. elev. got hit with rain, snow, sleet, high winds. Miserable!! I wasn't prepared for this dramatic weather and stopped at little hovel and spent night with 6 blankets on me. Next morn., did a 180 back to warmer country. Be a good scout. Be prepared!!--Porter |
Motodiver is right. It gets cold at the high altitudes on this route. There was snow on the ground, but none on the road, and none falling on me, so I was happy. The previous day it started raining which turned into a bit of the frozen stuff. Not snow, but not big enough to to be hail.
I whipped out my electric clothing for the second day, cranked it up and was very happy. --Terry |
