Denied entry to Argentina without insurance
I’m stuck on the Bolivian side of the border with Argentina in Bermejo, because I don’t have 3rd party insurance for the moto. The Argies said go to Bank Forteleza
So I did but they said they only sell it for cars not motos! I got conflicting info about crossing the border without the moto to buy insurance by getting a taxi to Orban about 50km and then returning to Bolivia. No guarantee the place is open or they will sell it to a foreign plated moto. An easier alternative, if possible would be to buy insurance online. Anyone know a website that can do that? The final solution is to abandon Argentina and go directly to Chile, but that is a huge diversion from where I am now Any suggestions welcome! Cheers Andrew |
Contact Javier and Sandra at Dakar Motos.

I opened up the Dakarmotos.com website and got a list of their services which includes Mercosur motor insurance, but there is no way to contact them either by phone, WhatsApp or email
Please advise Cheers Andrew |
Wow - that looks like a recent update to their website, and that is quite an omission!
Here is their email address: dakarmotos@hotmail.com Also you could connect w/ them on WhatsApp at +54 9 11 4730-0586 Good luck. I had very good experience with them both for motorcycle insurance and shipping services. |
i insured a couple times with:
Klaus & Claudia Schubert ( info@abgefahren.info) all online no problem |
I ended up getting 3rd party insurance for the moto with a lady named Nancy who represents Federacion Patronal Seguros on Monday and am now in Argentina at last!
The Dakar motos guy only got back to me on the Tuesday Can you please advise on 3rd Party insurance for Chile. I’m about 3 days away from crossing the border between Mendoza and Santiago, and I don’t want a repeat performance. Can you get it at the border or should you get it online. My Argentina insurance only covers for Argentina. Thanks for your help. Cheers Andrew |
Insurance for Chile
I can't tell about general rules.
But in my case, I could by it in the first town after passing the border. Try the last "larger" town in Argentina before reaching to border. Could be an option. To have it ready before the border. |
Hi Andrew,
I imagine you should find insurance at the border but I can’t confirm since I contracted a Mercosur insurance previous to my travels. If you need to do it online look for SOAPEX for example at HDI Seguros. Seems quite pricey though. Safe travels! Martin |
With Dakar Motos you can get insurance that covers you for all Mercosur countries in a single policy.
They have fixed their website btw. Jim Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Thanks Jim, actually I have since checked with Nancy the lady that sold me the Argentinian 3rd party insurance and she said it’s good for Chile.
Now all I have to do is get over the pass between Mendoza and Santiago, it’s been closed for three days due to snow, and more is forecast tomorrow before weather improves. Meanwhile I’m holed up in a cabana near the closest small town to the pass (Uspallata). Cheers Andrew |
