F650GS stalling issue
My F650GS twin has developed the annoying habit of stalling. Normally after a long run when I come to a halt it seems to let the idle get too low. Any suggestions? It is a bit overdue to check the valve clearance. Could it be that? (28,000 miles and 16,000 since last checked)

Yes, it could be the valves.
Or the fuel pump. Or the injectors. Or the tank vent line. Or the TPS. Or.... |
Thanks... The bike runs well. It's only when the throttle is closed that anything out of the ordinary happens. Does that make any difference?
What is the TPS?! I can only think of tyre pressure sensor doh |
TPS is a throttle position sensor. I'd start with the easiest and basics. An engine needs fuel, air and spark to run. I'd check the air cleaner, spark plugs and and wires first and see how things look.

The problem list can be longer but for sure is not relative to the tire…doh Check the air filter too. Saludos PS Upss sorry didnt saw other similar reply |
Thanks for those suggestions! Sparks are pretty new and air/oil filters too. Still I'll dig em out and check..

It's always worth checking the cheap things listed above first but this does seem to be a known problem with the EFI on the F650.
Fuel Injection FAQ It seems that the idle is not user adjustable. If you're lucky, you'll just have to clean something. If you're unlucky, you might need to reset the EFI, replace a sensor or the EFI unit itself. Of course, I know very little about bike mechanics in general and less about F650s. Is there an F650 forum anywhere? I post regularly in The Tenere Forum whenever my bike goes wrong and the folks there not only know the bike inside out but also happily tolerate idiots (i.e. me). Best of luck and let us know how you get on. |
