Getting SOAT in Quito, Ecuador
We flew into Quito and had quite a struggle with the SOAT.
You have to have it to get it out of customs without problem. But we got them out anyway. You are allowed to enter Ecuador without, but have to get it ASAP. But some officials at Quito airport didn't know this. To get the SOAT we were looking for a long time in Quito. Best place to get it in Quito: QBE (Headquarter Ecuador) Avenida Eloy Alfaro Opposide of Av. Jose Query (Two directions are separated lines, so QBE is on your righthand side when going north). Don't go to any other place. We tried many and they couldn't do it. At QBE we were helped very quickly. took us 15 min and 6,28$ for two bikes (1 month). |
Maybe the same place you used; we got ours here -0.181831 -78.475933. $5 for 1 month. We drove from Peru via the coast and this was the first place we found to get it and we had tried many times. Some people stopped by police, should have it, but its hard to get for foreign vehicles, what does everyone else do?

Entering ecuador from the south...
Spring 2014, crossed into Ecuador from Peru, traveling on the Pan-Am. Immigration/Customs facility is on the bypass just south of town. Got stamped in, started the importation (if memory serves me), then went into Huaquillas and got insurance at a agent no problem, returned and completed the importation. Take Route 50 into the center of Huaquillas. You'll make a left on one of the busy side streets. The insurance broker an open window/counter.
I tried to retrace the route, but Google Maps Street View doesn't currently cover Ecuador, although "capturing of the images started on September 23, 2014." |
