Have you traveled Patagonia in winter?
Hello!
I am planning on cruising from Colombia down to Buenos Aires from beginning of May to end of August. My biggest dream for that trip is Patagonia - seen photos, read books, love the place, I'm in awe. I'm a bit concerned regards the weather as those precise months I chose are winter time. Has anyone been riding through Patagonia during the winter? Was it just miserably cold, or not too bad after all? Aware that the area is huge, but can one generalise when not to go whatsoever? Also, I'm flexible. If beneficial, I can also ride from Buenos Aires up to Colombia, hence getting to Patagonia in mid-May rather than mid-August. Not sure if that will make a significant difference! In short: Patagonia - still an aye, or a clear nay and to postpone for the next trip? Thanks y'all! :) Cheers Alex |
Are you.....crazy?
My friend:
Just read seven entries below: Hemuli is asking the same question; carefully read the answers. It´s not only the cold, it´s the wind and the enormous amount of snow/ice as Patagonia climate is controled by two oceans. Nevertheless, Japhy Dhungana (he´s from Nepal, so you can deduce) arrived to Ushuaia in June, with ice-on-board of course. You might have a look to Hubert (thetimelessride): he has been north of Arctic Circule and over the Lake Baikal in winter. You are going to see what his gear is........and also important......how many tires he has: three, as he rode wit a sidecar. Good look, Santiago |
This was Ushuia December 26th
