help, how to get a rut in chile?
hi, ive just arrived in chile and went to the servicio de impuesto today to get my rut and was told that i need a signature of a local person on the form who will act as a guarantor incase i leave the country owing any tax money. i think this law came in in 2014 and i never heard any info on it before i came here. anyone any ideas on how i can get through this without any friends here to sign for me? any help, much appreciated. thanks

I got a RUT 3 months ago in Santiago.
I walked into the office nearest to my accommodation, pulled a number to queue, gave the officer my passport and walked out 5 minutes late with the RUT. Everything without a single word of Spanish. Maybe you should try a different officer, talk less, play stupid more. |
thanks for the confirmation, i knew this was bull shit and it shouldnt be this difficult from what ive read online. can you remember which office you went to? i think there are 4 in the city, the one closest to me was general del centro 281. il try a different one tomorrow morning. cheers

RUT
Hey Jono!
I went the the sii on general del Canto two days ago to get a RUT. I had the exact same problem as you. They sent me away without a RUT because I needed a local person to back me up with a signature. So, did you sort it out? Did you get your RUT on your second try? Thanks! |
Well they allways come up with something new. They send me away because i did not have a visa (From Europa i dont need a visa but only get a entrance stamp at the airport). If you get a local person to help you you can register the vehicle on his name anyway:

I went to the ssi office at general del Canto today again. This time I brought my Chilean friend. We waited in several different lines, talked to a lot of people. And in the end, I didn't get the RUT.
If anyone can shine some light on this problem, feel free to help out. :innocent: |

Hey. Yeah I just went to a different office in the end in comuna centro and had no problems. Of course I used the address of a hotel which was situated in that comuna. The woman had to go and get someone who spoke English and I just flirted with her a bit and everything was fine. So try using that office, can't remember the name. There is a law which was brought in in 2014 whereby you need to have a local person to sign for you to say if u leave the country owing any money then they are liable but it seems not many of the staff know much about it. Just keep trying different offices, there must be like over 20 in the city! Haha.

And by the way, I first used the office at general del canto aswell and was refused! Change address and change office!

Once again we had the same experience. Three days ago I went to the office in the center an I had no problem at all. I really recommend that office for anyone who wants to get a RUT.
Adress: padre alonso de ovalle 680. |
I did my RUT in general del Canto office december 2014, had few problems untill I said that I just want to buy a motorbike not to work in Chile, 5minutes later had my RUT
|
Got mine today in Puerto Varas . Walked into the office of Servicio Impuestos Internos and 10 minutes later I walked out with my RUT .

The system is chaotic and seems to depend on the person and day more than anything else. That said it does seem like more and more people are reporting that you need a Chilean to 'guarantee' the process. I've no idea what this actually means.

All you need is an address , but even your hotel address will do.
There is no other legal request at all . You go in, get your number and wait for your turn . You walk up to the counter, fill out the first 2 lines of the form that will be handed to you, show your passport and you get your RUT PROVISIONAL . This one is good for 3 month and after that you can pick up your final document (Carnet) . |
Getting a RUT today (23rd Dec 2015) in Iquique
We went to the Registro Civil in Iquique, they sent us to a different Registro Civil who in turn sent us to the Servicio de Impuestos Internos. They were really helpful and the queue there wasn’t as bad as the Registro Civil - we went mid-morning and waited less than 15 minutes.
We weren’t able to get a RUT there and then as we needed a Chilean ‘Representative’. We got the lady at the Servicio de Impuestos Internos to draft us a letter that we needed to re-draft filling in the X’s with our representative’s details. The lady also gave us the correct form (F4415.1) which she pre-filled with our details. We found a Chilean girl at the hostel we are in who was willing to act as our representative and took her to a cyber cafe, we typed up the letter word for word with her details and printed the letter (we did one for each of us and printed it twice). We took this letter to the Notaria, the Chilean girl still with us, the Notaria witnessed our signatures and thumbprints and then in turn singed it off. At this point we were confused who needed to sign, us or the girl, so we got both. We payed 6,000CLP for this. We then got the Chilean girl to fill in her bits of the F4415.1 form and the next day we went back to the Servicio de Impuestos Internos and were seen very quickly. With the Notaria signed paper confirming our Chilean Representative, they gave us a RUT in about 20 mins. We paid the Chilean girl 30,000CLP for her time, it took about 3 hours which she had to take off work unpaid. It’s probably quite a lot of money but well worth it for us. Here is the letter drafted out with XXX’s instead of details, you can re-write this, find a representative and follow the same steps. Note. Our Spanish is OK but pretty basic, and we managed in the Servicio de Impuestos Internos but were glad for the Chilean girls ability to sort out the finer details in the Notaria and read through and check all the documents for us. - Carta Poder En Iquique, a 22 de Diciembre de 2015, comparece Don(ña) (YOUR FULL NAME), pasaporte del Reino Unido de Gran Bretaña e Irlanda del Norte (OR YOUR COUNTRY) Nº (PASSPORT NUMBER) nacido en Inglaterra (OR YOUR COUNTRY) el ( YOUR DOB), de paso en esta ciudad. I got the rut very easily with this company.
When I arrived to Santiago past January, I got the contact of this company named Suzi santiago from a few friends that used their services, and I first had a meeting with them and they explain me everything, they asked me for a photo of my passport, and next day I meet in a notary with them and within a few hours I had my rut, for just 90,000 CLP didn't have to wait longer because they have already special attention on the notary and the servicio de impuestos internos, they provide me the E-RUT and also offer to help me with the process of buying a car. I recommend them so much if you're in a hurry..:thumbup1: If you look up on google "suzi santiago" you will see their website and contact!.
Cheers! |
