Help needed in lima
Hi guys, i have been in lima for a couple of days now trying to get a bigger front sprocket or smaller rear sprocket for my yamaha tenere 250. Everywhere i go they basically just say "i dont have it go to ...." i had my sprockets and chain replaced in huaraz but instead of a 520 chain i am now using a 428 chain. Does anyone here know of a place or could help in finding me a sprocket? I am currently running a 15 teeth sprocket on the front and 48 teeth sprocket on the rear. Would prefer to have a 16 or 17 teeth front sprocket or 45 rear sprocket. I thought that in this city it would be easy to find parts but its looking a lot harder to find than expected!
Another problem we are facing is parking! We are currently at a a hostel in miraflores and they stated that had private parking, it turns out that we can only park in front of the hostel by the road. Normally this isn't a problem but we a friend arriving today and we will be bussing for the next 10 days or so. Again we tried to find parking but it doesnt seem to be available anywhere! Anyone have a place or know of a place to store 2 bikes for about 10 days? Any help is much appreciated! We have been searching full time for the last 3 days and nothing seems to be working so we hope we can find a solution here! |
Try the bike shops on iOverlander: either the website or the app. A lot of the bike shops in Lima are on the same (very long) street, if I remember rightly. Sorry can't remember the name, but it'll be clear on iO.
Same for accommodation/ parking. Suerte! |
Hi
Did You try at Motos del Peru? Avenida Panama is a good place to search for moto parts. Ziggy |
Thank you for the info guys! I went to moto del peru but they looked like they were shut down. I have been to the Yamaha and Honda dealership and barbacci here in miraflores on ave angemos and ave republica de panama but no luck. Also tried many smaller shops that they recommended but nothing.. please let me know if I'm searching in the wrong location or if there are better spots to go to!

did you try to find a corona ciega which is a sprocket with no holes and you have to go and get it milled in a workshop.
worked very well on my dr 350 |
Ok great I will try that! Can you buy them anywhere?

I don’t get it. You just had sprockets replaced in Huarez and you’ve only made it as far as Lima, but you’re desperately looking for another sprocket set.
Is this because you’re using the wrong size chain? Wouldn’t it be easier to find a 520 chain and have done with it? I found them wherever I needed one without planning ahead. Cluelessly yours, Mark |
Well, I'll have to chime in aswel... Why muck around? Put the factory stuff on and be done with it? Seems like if you continue down this route you'll be chasing the same problem all over South America.
