How are things in Ecuador?

Hi, I am a new member. I am looking at a fly and ride in Ecuador in July. Can anyone on the ground or recently returned tell me the status of things? Covid problems? Is July a good month for riding in Andes? visiting the Amazon side? Thanks everyone.

July and August seem to be the better time of year to travel in Ecuador but in the Amazonas region you must expect rain all year round to some degree:

Covid restrictions I dont know...

Yes, that’s what I was thinking. Dry most places, always rain in the jungle. I wonder how cold at altitude? I would love info on travel there right now in the world of wuhan.

Since it is under the equator, the differences between seasons are very limited.
As you can also see from the tables in the link.

The rainy season is mainly Jan-March.
But it is also the warmest (at least at the coast)
The rain often comes in the afternoon.

Quito at 2 800 m has around 20 degrees during day. And 10 during night (Celcius) So it is very nice in the Andes.

It is a very nice country to travel in.
Too many persons just pass it on the Gringo Trail towards next country.

Travel "Avenida de dos vulcanos", "El oriente", North of Quito (Ibarra) och Salinas area.

Corona ? Who knows what will happen. That virus does not follow any predictions. And new rules can come from one day to the next.

Pictures
1. Laguna de Cuicocha. Close to Otavalo. North of Quito. An old vulcano
2. Chimborazo. With a road to a refugio at 4 800 m
3. Rio Napo, close to Misahaullí

Nice! thank you, yes I am looking forward to it. I will check out those places. Are things there open and pleasant? or locked down and closed?

Erik_G 5 May 2021 17:35

Open or close

Check with the officials in Equador.

To get the correct information.
But what is correct today can be wrong tomorrow.

Hey Eric_G,

If you are looking to rent a bike, I recommend Freedom Bike Rental. They will set you up with a bike of your choice and you can add a self-guided tour package if you choose. The package includes lodging and a pre-programmed GPS. The operators provide a briefing of the itinerary and tips on riding Ecuador in general. The routes are customized to your riding preferences, off-road or pavement. https://freedombikerental.com/

I had a great time!:D:scooter::thumbup1:

No, I have no plans for travelling to or in Ecuador.
I just shared some of my experiences.
After having spent 3*2 months in Ecuador, Once upon a time.....
I know some of the country. At least what it used to be.

It was SbTom that had plans....

Yes, and I am talking with Freedom Ecuador. They seem to be pretty organized. My concerns are regarding lockdowns and closures related to the Wuhan virus. It sounds like some crazy stuff is going down in Colombia and the rest of the world is months behind the States on vaccination, unfortunately. I sure would like to go, though.

SeanF 11 May 2021 19:42

+1 on renting from Freedom.

SBTom 12 May 2021 01:06

tell me!

If someone is in Ecuador right now,
Can you give me the on-the-ground status of Wuhan in Ecuador? I need to write some checks and I need the latest status on things.

What is the current status on restaurants, Banks, hotels, bars, etc? closed? Open with mask? Take out only?
Vaccines rolling out or nowhere to be seen?
What do you see coming in 1-2 months? Wuhan rising? Indian apocalypse? Columbian riots?, Covid?, meh!
Any restrictions on road travel? Curfews?

Obviously, I understand that things can, and will, be in flux and we don’t have a crystal ball, but I hope someone can give me the candid take on things.

Thanks folks!

This country is opened to travellers, you may be asked a PCR and if your are vaccinated, maybe a vaccine certificate. Borders with Colombia will open in the next days.

July should be with good weather, not only in Sierra, but also in the Amazon. Maybe some roads under maintainance or closed, the rainy season has been strong.
Ecuadorian Andes are awesome to ride, road from north to south. Drop a line when you begin your ride, hot soup and bed is always offered to travellers in my place, on the countryside and nicest part of the "Avenida de los Volcanes"
