How to buy a motorbike in chile and then tour all southamerica
hello folks,
My question is very simple....has anyone bought a motorbike in chile and be able LEGALLY to leave the country? what is the procedure? i've been looking around for post but couldn't find nothing that could make my anxiety of not be able to buy and than leave the country disappear. Xfiltrate is doing an awesome job for the argentinian side but it seams the chile is much more harder... thank you again for reading this!!!! PLEASE SHAREEEEE!! :)!!!! :helpsmilie::scooter::thumbup1: |
Hi Gusonopa, i think the reason no one has ansered your question yet is that the information is all here on the hubb, this question has been asked and answered many times. I wrote a post a while ago, here on the Hubb, on how to buy a used bike in Santiago and then how to leave Chile!
The answer is simple, yes you can leave Chile, but cross into Argentina. Chile borders Bolivia, Peru and Argentina. People have had trouble leaving Chile into Peru and Bolivia, but you are free to cross into Argentina and once in Argentina you can then cross into any other country you like. I am not sure why there are restrictions on the Bolivia/Peru borders. I travelled around S. America on a Chilean bike and i tried to get in touch with the Aduana (customs) to ask them. I have the telephone number of the person in the Aduana who supposedly knows the answer, but i couldn´t reach them the few times i tried. I have friends in Santiago who i also asked to try for me, but they have other things on their mind, and i think it unlikely they will get round to it. However if you speak good Spanish i can give you all the details, you can ring around and let us all know what you find out. But as far as i know there aren´t people on the Hubb buying Argentian bikes and leaving the country, but there are people buying bikes in Chile and then going all over. |
Lachy you are a LEGEND!!!
thank you!!! as for the Spanish, nope...don't speak it yet but ill make shure as soon as i get to Santiago i gather more information and then post it. as for the number it wouldn't hurt having it, i will probably ask a friend to call for me. my e mail address is scrmtt@hotmail.com Thanks again dude, you made my day very relaxing now!!! :)!!! 48 days to go!! :)!! :)!!:funmeteryes: |
Below i have posted the response i received from the Aduana in Chile, to the following question.
¨Why can tourists with a Chilean vehicle cross into Argentina but not Boliva and Peru?¨ (i have paraphrased the question) I will not bother to translate the answer as it does not say anything useful, except that for further information you should contact the phone number in the last paragraph. good luck if you choose to follow this up.
