How long if a foreign licence valid in Argentina?
Hey guys,
Being trying to google this in both English & Spanish with no luck, does anyone know (and best of all, have a source) if there is a limit to how long you can legally drive with your foreign licence while in Argentina? In most countries there's a limited timeframe, usually the length of a standard tourist visa, after which you need to transfer to a local licence to legally drive (more for insurance purposes than police, obviously that's less of an issue). Any info would be appreciated. Cheers. |
Ask at an embassy?
In general principle anywhere your licence is not local? I would think as long as; the licence is valid and you are still a tourist (not settling permanently) and have not committed enough offences to make your licence invalid. I have had a crash with someone who had a non local licence and admitted to becoming a permanent local. The police booked him for driving without a licence (his non local licence was upto date .. but not local), driving an unregistered vehicle (the vehicle was also registered but not locally). The vehicle could not be driven away as it was deemed unregistered.. tow truck. Of course the insurance company would not pay out ... It was a very expensive lesson. |

Yes, as it is in the majority of countries.
(and confirmed with car hire company, police, and insuring company, if needing that confirmation) |
If you are becoming a permanent resident .. ?? then there is a time limit...
Ask the officials! The chances of someone here actually knowing that detail is poor - most of us are tourists. The police might know, or be able to look it up. The people who issue licences will know, as they will probably be able to 'transfer' your original licence into a local licence.. note they will probably take your original licence in the process. |
Asking for someone else, and that is what I suggested to them, but they seem to want the answer given to them by someone rather than actually contacting the officials that would know, so thought I'd just take a chance and see if anyone here had an idea. ;)
