how to store your bike legally in peru
first you better make sure that there is a custom office(aduanas) nearby.
after finding a save place to store your bike you go to the comisaria of that bario and ask for a constatacion policial. they will come to the place and take details of the owner and of the place itself,nr. of water meter and electicity meter, colour of the house and finally they look at the number plate and if there is a spare tyre. you then have to go to the banco de la nacion and pay soles 3,60 to the police account, tell them: quiero pagar el derecho a una copia certificada de una constatacion polical. make copy of the receit and go back to the comisaria the next day and get your paper, make copy. meanwhile get a friendly peruvian to help you with phrasing un solictud de postergacion for customs. in which you state that you have to go home, financial or health or family reasons, make copy.make copy of the permiso temporal de internacion(importacion) of your bike, copy of the papers of the bike, copy of the flight dates and what ever you think is of interest to the customs. you then go to las aduanas present your case and with luck you should be out of there within 1-3 hours and everything completed up to a year seems to be no problem. in my case in arequipa very friendly stuff. suerte pata motoquero all the best geri |

I have done the same in Cuzco, but did not feel the need to SHOUTabout it.
:nono: :cool4: I had to make up an emergency excuse (sick mother) and show a copy of my new plane ticket to customs. They did not care where I left the bike or anything. All was very smooth & the costs were inconsequential. I got 12 months as well. |
