How To Take Your Drone Through South America
I'm going from Colombia to Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, and Argentina on a motorcycle and want to bring a drone with me. But, I hear drones can be a problem with some border crossings and use in the countries.
Any advice on how to cross borders with a drone? Do's and Dont's? If you were going to hide a drone for a crossing any creative ideas? Hopefully, others have experience and can share advice. |
Drone
Hi I am in Bolivia at the moment travelling from the USA in Nicaragua I met a guy Tim travelling with a drone he smuggled his through. He took it out of the container and put it in his coat pocket. I heard a few stories of people doing it the official way and loosing there drone. If you like I can put you in contact with him I am sure he would have more information.

Makia, I would appreciate the contact info. I just want to get some great shots while I'm traveling.

Buy a dji tello....Is very small and is like a toy(in case that someone in the costums find it).

Have flown my drone in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru without issue.
Never been searched at any boarder crossing. |
I have ridden in every CA and SA country except Chile and Paraguay. Only has to unpack the top of my bags at the direction of a young soldier in Venezuela, a roadside checkpoint in the far eastern edge of the country. Had to unpack 1/2 of my luggage entering Cuba on the Stalhratte.
The takeaway, your bags will rarely be searched and even more rarely completely searched. Yes, there are stories of riders having to unpack everything. I suspect those riders brought troubles on themselves by being in some way difficult. Keep your drone in your bag. If found and a fuss is made, then claim ignorance and you may have to surrender it. Insist on a receipt or the drone will likely become a gift to the official's kid. You are more likely to see that kind of nonsense in Central America. South America borders are easy. |

Met those guyz in Uyuni and they traveled all over SA with a drone. You can ask them about it. |
