How to work out if roads are paved or unpaved?

I started my trip in USA I am now in Chile. Is there anyway of working out if a road is sealed or unsealed. I use Osmand and Google maps. Some times I thimk the road is a main road turns out to be a goat track. Then amazing sealed roads turn up as well.
Any ideas would be great.

Nick, Here in Peru when people ask me I say "Yes, it is all paved..... except where it's not!" Which is the truth since it WAS paved only 2 years ago! That's the situation in South America (except maybe in Chile). I Brazil EVERYTHING is paved! But with potholes everywhere!
