I´m running out of time...
 

Ok, I´m not sure what I am going to do...
Before I left Australia for BsAs I booked a ´return´ flight from Vancouver, Canada for the 17th of August. I can´t really change this date (only if the sht really hits the fan). This seemed do-able from the start but I have spent too much time in South America (because it is great...).

I have been puting it off but I NEED to make a decision.
This not the way I prefer to travel but how many riding days (not including side trips/rest days/problems..) would I need to ride from Panama to Vancouver. I know that this is a bit like asking how long a piece of string is... No silly speeds, roughly 5 to 6 hours a day. Would I be absolutely crazy to do it in 1 month??

Right now I am still in Bogotá but plan to leave for the coast very soon. I know I can fly my bike from Bogotá to Panama but can I also do this from Cartegena or Barranquilla?? Thought about flying to Miami but I don´t know if this saves me any time anyway..

I think you can get to the american border in 14 days and from there to Canada 14 days is definatly dooable.

Personally I did not like Central America nearly as much as South America, except Guatemala which is nice. Mexico can be good, but expensive as well. The states are expensive too, soo if you dont feel like looking at all the national parks, then rushing through is probabaly ok as well.

Remember that the border crossings are much more slow/annoying in central am, so you should reserve at least a couple of hours for each, and do yourself a favour and get 20 photocopies of all your documents.

If I was going that way I wouldent mind rushing it since I wasent too impressed with Central am. BUT maybe YOU will miss some fantastic experiences, so speed with care.

can I fly with my bike direct from Cartegena?? or do i need to return to Bogotá..

Hey Bruce, my 2 cents...I'd budget 3 weeks to the US border and then a week to Canada. The roads in the States are good/fast. I think you'll enjoy your time south of the US border more(I do!)- especially if you're trying to save money. Some "bad" news: When I was in Panama there were no direct flights to Cartegena- only a sailboat from Colon to Cartegena that takes 5 days or so. Safe travels, Hook.
