We are after information on crossing the Salar de Uyuni. (Salt Lake)We would like to do it via Tupiza to Uyini, en route to La Paz. Is fuel readily available please?
Thanks. |
I did not do that route, but it is definitely available in Uyuni.

Your biggest issue will always be the Bolivian "will he sell gas to a foreigner?" problem. Three stations in Uyuni as I recollect, all were still happy to sell to foreign plates back in Dec 2012. |
Be careful
Did the road from Tupiza to Uyuni 2 months ago. A bit over 200 kms, all dirt road. In between there´s one dessert village, I forgot the name, and they told me they had fuel but I couldn´t find it even after asking around a lot.
Decided I should be able to make it to Uyuni, but ran out of gas because at one point the road was covered by sand hills and had to go offroad to go around it. Don´t know what your range is but some spare fuel would probably be a good idea. Getting fuel in Tupiza and Uyuni is not a problem. |
Thanks for the information guys. We did the 204km from Tupiza to Uyuni today. What a fantastic ride. We will do a day ride from Uyuni tomorrow.:funmeteryes::thumbup1:
