insurance central and south america
 

Hi,
we didn't find anything about this topic in here.
So our question is:
does somebody know a bike insurance not only for Mexico but also the rest of central and south america? Or do we have to get a insurance for each country ? Is it even necessary in every country?

Hi it depends on what you are talking about.

3rd pary insurance is mandatory at most border crossings down this way and you will buy what they sell, most are cheap. I got ripped at the Mexico border and payed too much, do some research and probably buy before entering the border.

If you want comprehensive bike theft and accident stuff, then get it before you go,

Mexico is seperate insurance from the rest. I am travelling without anything except what each country requires, which just covers personal and proprty damage I think

Hello an d Whoooa! This topic has been covered here many times, if you do a bit of looking you will find all the details.
Mexico liability insurance is sold online and all over US border towns. Liability is all you need and most companies will write only that for bikes.Besides, fire theft,all risks etc gets waaaay too expensive.
If you get a DRIVERS LICENSE nominated liability policy it will be less expensive than trip insurance for anything longer than 34 days- you can get a full year cover .
The other countries also require liability, sold at the border in Belize, Nicaragua and Costa Rica and you will not be permitted in until you get it. For the remainder you may buy a policy from some insurance sellers in the US .check it out.

Hi Axel,
we signed in Germany with Nowag, Rodgau an insurance for 3rd liability. There are certain countries which are not covered by this insurance (as mentioned here before).But those countries will sell you insurance at the border for about 15 US$.
Mexico we sign with AAA in the US.

i called sanborn insurance earlier this week for this info. As a canadian for my 1200 gs 2005

Fully insured, theft, collision, damage..... road assistance (i think)
6 month mexico around 400$

Central and south america 4 weeks around 500$ (it doesn't include mexico)
