Kite sufring & fly fishing?
I am off for a year around SA starting in January. I know there is plenty of both but i wonder if any Hubbsters have done either surfing or fishing on their travels and have any tips?
Shame i didn't spell Surfing right! Cheers Delb |
surfing
Central and south america is great for surfing exp Kite surf , for fishing south amreica is better , I prefere to rent my gear directly where ever I am better than carrying your own.
Costa rica for surfing is great , ecudor is OK chile is too cold Agentina , chile, peru equator have great fly fishing |
Hendi
I agree, I will hire kite surf gear but perhaps when i get to Brazil i may bring my own kit, as I fancy spending quite a while on the coast there! i was hoping for some more detailed info on location of Surfing and fishing. The web sites for fishing are never ending so would be good to hear from someone who has been there. Thanks Delbert |
Argentina fly fishing
I took a fly fishing setup when I was there in 2007-8.
A license for a foreigner was 300 arg pesos then. If you stay near and to the west of Ruta 40 from Malague and south, there are lots of streams. There were marked public fishing spots . I don't know if there's a map of these or not, you just have to keep your eyes open. Junin de los Andes is a big fly fishing area and had several stores and guides. I think Jan to Mar is the better time.. Good Luck with your Pesca con Mosca |
Runoff
Many thanks, I will make a note and keep my eyes peeled. I am going to take an 8 weight, enough you think? Delbert |
Should be fine
I took a 4 piece 9' 6 wt. and didn't have a problem.
There are outdoor gear stores in the major cities if you need most anything. Sometimes less is more.... Oh Brother, Where Am I ?: Majestic Views and Fishing School |
While I don't have any first hand experience of fishing in SA, I used to work in fly-shops and have outfitted several parties headed down to Argentina to fish. Unless you'll be specifically targetting sea-run trout the 6wt will be your best bet for freshwater, 8wt will be overkill - even for those monster Argentinian trout.
Of course if you're planning any surf / beach fishing an 8wt would be nice... Hope this helps - have fun, tight lines! |
Thank you for the indication of rod, bit of a bugger though as i have just ordered it!
