La Paz - Help needed!

Hi all,

currently i am in La Paz with a real badly damaged rear tyre of my BMW R1100 GS.

Does anybody have an address of a good dealer who can change the tyre to anything that matches the BMW's wheel ???

Thanks!

Try Edgar Dennis Ochoa Candia at telephone # 591-2 222 5669. Custom and Chopper. He is associated with a Bike club in Bolivia.

Speaks very limited English, but he has a friend to can interpret Spanish to English.

Good Luck. La Paz is not a bad place to spend some time while you get this sorted out. Also a great place to buy and then ship gifts from.

Alternator and Regulator both went down on my Harley in La Paz and he found me the connections to get these repaired.

Am currently in La Paz so if you fancy meeting up let me know. Not sure I can be of much help other than buy you a beer!

I am in Pension California and plan to spend a day or two here before catching the ferry to Mazatalan

All the best

hey mate

Im in La Paz at the moment as well and waiting for a new tyre for my BMW r100gs. I went to Nosiglia (a honda motorbike dealer.) They had pretty limited stock and only pirelli tyres but they can order others. They are in Av Costanera. If you go to San Miguel, Calle 21 and go right to the end, turn right, they are 100m on the left. There is one guy there that speaks perfect english which is good if your spanish is anything like mine.

By the way what are your travel plans? Im heading south through bolivia to chile and having a riding partner would be great. Im pretty flexible so even just a side trip would be cool. Take it easy and good luck with the tyre.

forgot to add... they probably have an offroad tyre (MT21) that would fit your bike but I wanted a dual purpose tyre so they are ordering that in. They reckon about 3 days...

Regards, Mick

Yeah, that is good hint, i will try if none of the other solutions i got until now will help.

All the best

Hi Ilya,

thanks for your info, might be helpful i will try it. I already thought about contacting a Honda dealer as there is defintely no BMW motorcycle representative in La Paz (as BMW Germany told me in advance).

Well, i heading a little bit north and then ... ??? I have to be back in Lima on the 12th of June, so still some time to explore a bit of Bolivoia and Peru. Some friends are on their way to Uyuni and reported this morning that the roads till Oruro are quite good. They will go further to Chile to San Pedro but have no idead what the roads look like overthere...

Regards from La Paz

Hi Al,

it is crazy but i am somehow a little bit in a hurry. So first i try to get the bike repaired and then - maybe there is time for a beer. I am in the Hotel "Madre Tierra" which is in the Av. 20 de Octubre (yes i know - it is quite expensive ...)

Hi Al,

so that's quite far away for having a beer tonight...

So have a safe trip also, may be we meet somewhere on the road.

@Ilya: Meanwhile i checked for Nosiglia, the Honda dealer in La Paz (BO). They try to get rear tyre until Wednesday morning - i hope they succeed!! I think i saw your bike standing there as well...

Regards
Gerd

Hello Gerd,
I see, you already got in contact with Nosiglia. well, in caser you need some additional parts, there ist a part of La Paz, where you will find wheels as well as other replacement parts. anyway, it will be difficulte to get parts for large bikes. I tried that once with an AT. Tires are mainly Pirelli. Michelin or others are rarly avaliable.

Here is one adress
SDA Importaciones
Respuestos genuinos para Motocicletas
Calle Colombia 496 – San Pedro
La Paz – Bolivia
Phone: 2480734 – 719-04139
Mail: felsickjanett@hotmail.com
Breaking pads, pneumaticos as well as replacement parts for Honda, Kawa, Yamaha. Quite a lot of other stores around

just as an additional info: In case you plan to go to Brasil afterwards and need a wheel, stopp in Santa Cruz. The tyres are cheaper there then in Brasil (even if they are brasilien products).

have a nice trip
