Yes, as I understand it. Don't let your TIP expire tho'. You could check at aduanas, they are very helpful w/these sorts of things.

Here is what the Douana man in Punta Arenas (Chile) told me on this matter yesterday.

If you entered Chile with bike, you will not be allowed to leave without bike. The solutions are 3:

1. To exit Chile legally without bike, you need to transfer the temporary import to someone while you are away. To do this you need to go to the Douana office with someone who will legally sign they are taking responsibility for the bike.

2. Apparently this is not an issue in Argentina, so the other option is to park the bike there and then go where you please.

3. Not for the faint hearted, but having crossed the border 4 times already, I'm pretty sure there's a way to work it so you end up in Chile with a paperless bike when you cross. This off course makes your bike illegal and if you are stopped by police you'll be in doo doo, but you'll have no problems exiting....

Hope this helps.

So is there a way the passport is connected to the TVIP document?

And what if you are in Chile with a european plated bike and suddenly there is an emergency at home and you need to go home to your sick mother or father - will the Aduana have any rights to deny me leaving Chile without my vehicle? I doubt that.... but it would be great if someone could clerify.

You can leave your bike in Chile while you leave the country , you just need to be back before your TVIP expires .
