A sad story. I hope there is some good news to come.
|
Are they on a bike ? We are in Bolivia, La PAz, and on to Cobacabana, spoting a bike might be easier if they're bikers ? Will keep our eyes open anyway.

I'm sure someone has contacted the local police. Do they know which banks were used to withdraw the money? Where they ATM withdrawals? If they were maybe the have the security tapes to see if the couple was alone or with someone else. If they withdrawals were directly from a teller maybe the teller remembers an austrian couple and could tell you/us if they were alone or not.
I'll pass this along to a Land Rover BBS in South America and see if they can help in any way. I'll ask them to pass it along to other groups in that area. I'm sure I speak for everyone on this board when I say if we can help in anyway please let us know. Good luck and hope everything works out ok. Keep us posted and folks lets keep this msg alive by bumping it up to the top. John C. |

President promises rapid clarifying
Since at the beginning of February two Viennese tourists are missing in Bolivia. President Evo Morales assured today to Federal President Heinz Fischer, that the authorities would do everything in order to clarify the incident as rapidly as possible. "in the moment, in which I was informed about the disappearing of the Austrian citizens, I assigned both the public prosecutor's office and the organs of public security personally to clear up this regrettable incident with all forces" Morales wrote in a letter in reply at Fischer. The Federal President had asked for support on highest level. Austrian officials help For one month also two Austrian officials support the Bolivian authorities in La Paz. also the Bolivian police has designated special forces for the search of the Viennese. The Austrian officials will return to Austria within the next days. The Federal Criminal Investigation Office is in close contact with the family of the two tourists. Lately suspects were filmed when withdrawing money from a cash machine with the cards of the missing persons. Since then the investigations concentrate particularly on the surroundings of the suspects. Last E-Mail contact to 24th january. The family had the last e-mail contact with the travellers on 24th Jan. The 25-year old Katharina vest and the 28-year old Peter Kristen Rabitsch were seen last in a hotel in Copacabana at the lake Titicaca. The couple wanted to continue their journey to Chile and from there to Sidney. They did not reach the flight. [This message has been edited by winne (edited 09 March 2006).] |
Just to say people over here are aware of the case, was widly publised, all locals we spoke to knew about it. Lets hope.

I don't know how effective they would be in this part of the world, but a private detective might help your situation. It all depends on how much money they charge. I personally would not depend on any SA police agency for something this serious, even if the President of Bolivia is involved. Look into it if you have the means.

Sad to report they were found in a shallow grave according to a local newspaper Saturday March 11. (London). No other details. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.gif

Hi Grant,
this was apparently a false information. The two people found are already dead for some 1,5 years. So there's still hope!! Regards Winfried |
