Moto insurance in Panama - minimum coverage 1yr???
Fellow bikers,
I've just arrived in Panama, waiting for the bike to arrive by container from Cartagena. Today I shopped around for 3rd party insurance. I went to 5 companies. All said that the minimum period for coverage is 1 year. Apparently there was a rule change in 2015. Before this date it was possible to have coverage for one month for around $15. For 3rd party coverage, 1 yr, the price ranges from $62 to $225. Companies such as Sura and Mapfe no longer offer insurance for motos (to risky / unprofitable). Before buying, I was wondering what other riders have recently paid. Cheers, Bob |
Since we rode in from Costa Rica I bought insurance at a little office at the border in November 2015. I can't remember the details except it was very cheap and there wasn't a phone number on the policy so I wasn't sure who I was supposed to call if I needed to use it! I'm sure it was for much less than a year.
