need advice on Colombia
on october 3 I start my trip down to Ushuaia on my own bike in Bogotá. I got a public liability insurance for all countries of South America except Colombia! I tried hard to get a local insurance in Colombia, but until now it was impossible. Has anybody experience with this matter?

sura
Hi
We arrived in Columbia about 1 week ago in Cartagena. So we needed insurence as well. The local insurance company Sura sells it. Sura stands for suramericana. We paid for 2 months about 57400 pesos. Sura is nationalwide and i saw many offices within the country. So this should work. Wish you a nice trip. |
The insurance in Colombia is called SOAT. It is required by law and you can get it many different places like the place mentioned above, or even including some gas stations. Just ask around. The minimum policy I have seen is 3 months for about 80,000 COP IIRC, but like a the previous post mentioned, you might be able to get it for less time. The cops will sometimes ask to see it at checkpoint, but not always.
If you do get in an accident, SOAT really works, for medical bills, everything, so its good insurance. |
