Need Tire in Peru or Bolivia
All,
I am in Urubamba, Peru right now and plan on doing Machu Picchu tomorrow. I am riding a BMW R1200 GS and hit a massive pot hole the size of Rosie Odonnell's arse. As a result, my front tire developed a bubble that is protruding from the side (nowhere near as large as Rosie's arse but worrisome nonetheless). While I can still ride on it, I really, really, really prefer not to. Long story short, I need a new front tire (Tourance 110/80 19 Front). It doesn't have to be Tourance but obviously a comparable brand. I've called all over Cusco trying to find a replacement but no luck. Where might I find a replacement? After Machu, I am heading south towards Lake Titicaca and then into Bolivia. Perhaps I will have luck in La Paz? Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated!!! All the best, Paul |
This may be of some guidance to you.
2005 BMW R1200GS Service History: December 2005 La Paz does not have many bikes, as it does Sucre, Cochabamba or Santa Cruz. If no one replies to you I'll give you a couple of contacts, but first try someone closer to your present location. If not you will brake down in the middle of nowhere and you don't want that to happen.:stormy: Regards |
Forget Cusco
Go see Jeff at Norton Rats - he has teh contact of a dealer in Lima who can send you just about anything esp Pirelli For 15 Soles you can get it sent on a bus to arrive in Cusco in a day We had same issue but were travelling North. Our tires were bald, we called the dealer in Lima who sent them North to Trujillo....wicked service. Hope this helps Cheers Barney |
Thank you both for your quick responses (life amazes me sometimes)
The way I see it, living in the States and now traveling through South America....I am always out in the middle of nowhere...regardless if I am in Lima or Cusco. It's a calculated risk or should I say Vegas. Barney, I found the bar Norton's Rat Tavern and randomly shot them over an email tonight...hopefully they will churn up something. Thank you both for your quick responses...It's a good feeling to have people respond so quickly! BTW...you all need to check out this YouTube video...frigin' hysterical: YouTube - Everything's amazing, nobody's happy All the best, GoHotzeGo |
On the left side of this page is a link to "Communities" Here you can submit a request for info from HU members in the areas you will be traveling to. They can give you the heads up to where to go for tires.
Jeff of the infamous Norton Rat's in Cusco is a fantastic guy. He tried to get me some Pirelli's when I was there, but the Pirelli dealer was changing locations and the phone number was no longer working. So I was out of luck. I ended up getting a Pirelli MT60 100/90 19 in La Paz for $65. Yes, its not a stock size but it works well and its cheap. If you want stock size of 110/80 19 you will be paying 4 times the price of the MT60's FYI - the Pirelli MT60's are an easy tire to find in most of South America. I can't find the info on how to get to the Motorcycle shop in La Paz at the moment. Just contact the Community, they will tell you. |
