O’Higgins ferry

I’m sure I read a write up of a ferry that goes from El Chalten to Villa O’Higgins that takes bikes - can anyone confirm please?

Many thanks

Not exactly. There are two ferries with some off-roading in between, and a gravel road on the El Chalten end. You can easily google this...or search The HUBB.

Hope that’s helpful.

The info that was trasmitted to me in 2018 when I was there that it's only for Bicycles and motorcycles arents allowed to ride from Villa O'higgins to El Chaiten.

We just rode in and out via the Ruta 40. Our cyclist friends biked it and they said it was a challenge on a bicycle.

jfman's information is much more recent than mine. However, it's definitely been done on little local motorbikes, and a friend did it on a DRZ400 about 8 years ago. I seem to remember photos of his bike being towed through a steep uphill mudhole by donkeys.

Probably not worth putting a lot of effort into responding to casual inquiries. Google is your friend (and theirs, and the OP's).

I was there in March and spoke to the people at the ferry. They said they would not take my motorcycle and that in any case the overland part is impossible to complete on the motorcycle. Of course, i had heard of people doing it by motorcycle, but I guess it didn't appear to be an option in march.
